Kioxia demonstrates new high-capacity SSD form factor

Image
Rather than using a hard disk form, Kioxia's EDSFF SSD uses new designs for chip placement and cooling efficiency. Addlink As the enterprise SSD matures it is shedding its legacy hard-disk identity one technology at a time. SATA has been replaced by PCI Express. Serial buses have given way to parallel data flow, and the 2.5-inch form factor is going to give way to a new design for greater chip density and cooling. Kioxia America, formerly Toshiba, has demonstrated a fully functional E3.S SSD called Enterprise and Datacenter SSD Form Factor (EDSFF), also known as E3. Both form factors are being  developed  by the Storage Network Infrastructure Association (SNIA) consortium. The E3.L has a long, thin shape like a ruler. Intel  demonstrated  a prototype ruler design three years ago, but it was a prototype and never went anywhere. EDSFF has been designed from the ground up to support SSDs in all-flash arrays for both cloud and enterprise data centers using a new form factor rather than

Vine Vide Viche Visa? Researchers Discover 6-Second Credit Card Hack

Image
Most e-commerce sites automatically block credit cards whose corresponding expiry date and three-digit CVV have been incorrectly entered more than 10 times. This security precaution is supposed to prevent cybercriminals who’ve only accessed stolen credit card  numbers  from taking unlimited guesses at the correct numeric combination of the other two pieces of information. But according to new research from Newcastle University,  it takes just six seconds to complete a successful “distributing guessing” attack  to crack Visa credit card details. What’s a distributed guessing attack, you ask? Fraudsters can use this type of attack to evade security policies guarding credit card credentials by submitting countless payment request combinations to hundreds of e-commerce sites in unison. This process allows bypass those failed attempt limits and verify correct Visa credit card credentials in no time at all. To find out what e-commerce sites can do about this type of attack and why Visa cards

Credit card fraud: Government's cyber security reveals names of 7 'hacked' websites Gadgets Now Bureau  | 17 Jul, 2020, 08:49AM IST The government's cybersecurity agency Cert-In has warned against incidents of credit card skimming on e-commerce websites worldwide. In online credit card skimming, cyber criminals add skimming code on online shopping websites to steal credit card information shared by customers. As per Cert-In, "Attackers are typically targeting e-commerce sites because of their wide presence, popularity and the environment LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP)." The Cert-In's advisory is based on Malwarebytes recent report. According to the report, all the compromised sites identified had a shopping portal, and this is exactly what the attackers were after. Cert-In has also shared the names of skimmer hosting sites as well as best practices to follow for website developers: Related :   Vine Vide Viche Visa? Researchers Discover 6-Second Credi

Expect a Memory Revolution in 2020—It’s a Big Leap from DDR4 to DDR5

Image
May 16, 2020  by   Antonio Anzaldua Jr.   The leap from DDR4 and DDR5 is no incremental development. We're looking at a leap from standard frequencies of 2400 MHz to 4800 MHz. Double data rate five (DDR5), the new generation of synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM), will provide higher performance, larger bandwidth, faster data transfer, and low power consumption. The leap from DDR4 and DDR5 is no incremental development. We're looking at a leap from standard frequencies of 2400 MHz to 4800 MHz. According to Samsung,  DDR5 memory  can send and receive double the data signals in one clock cycle as DDR4, promoting more capacity and faster transfer rates.  The goal here is to support heavily trafficked datacenters,  which are especially burdened because of stay-at-home orders .   Chart comparing key specifications of DDR4 and DDR5.
